چکیده

In the last few years, we have seen a tremendous boost in the efficiency of SAT solvers, this boost being mostly due to Chaff. Chaff owes some of its efficiency to its “two-literal watching” data structure. In this paper we present watched data structures for Quantified Boolean Formula (QBF) satisfiability solvers. In particular, we propose (i) two Chaff-like literal watching schemes for unit clause detection; and (ii) two other watched data structures, one for detecting pure literals and the other for detecting void quantifiers. We have conducted an experimental evaluation of the proposed data structures, using both randomly generated and real-world benchmarks. Our results indicate that clause watching is very effective, while the 2 and 3 literal watching data structures become more effective as the clause length increases. The quantifier watching structure does not appear to be effective on the instances considered.

Watching Clauses in Quantified Boolean Formulae

The introduction of watched literals[1], a lazy data structure for satisfiability (SAT) search algorithms, has resulted in great improvements in the run-time of SAT solvers. Watched literals keeps track of two literals remaining in a clause so as to detect when a clause becomes unit or empty. Watched literals is non-trivial to implement in QBF search. Quantified Boolean Formulae (QBFs) are SAT ...

qbf2epr: A Tool for Generating EPR Formulas from QBF

We present the tool qbf2epr which translates quantified Boolean formulas (QBF) to formulas in effectively propositional logic (EPR). The decision problem of QBF is the prototypical problem for PSPACE, whereas EPR is NEXPTIME-complete. Thus QBF is embedded in a formalism, which is potentially more succinct. The motivation for this work is twofold. On the one hand, our tool generates challenging ...

Beyond CNF: A Circuit-Based QBF Solver

State-of-the-art solvers for Quantified Boolean Formulas (QBF) have employed many techniques from the field of Boolean Satisfiability (SAT) including the use of Conjunctive Normal Form (CNF) in representing the QBF formula. Although CNF has worked well for SAT solvers, recent work has pointed out some inherent problems with using CNF in QBF solvers. In this paper, we describe a QBF solver, call...

Symbolic Decision Procedures for QBF

Much recent work has gone into adapting techniques that were originally developed for SAT solving to QBF solving. In particular, QBF solvers are often based on SAT solvers. Most competitive QBF solvers are search-based. In this work we explore an alternative approach to QBF solving, based on symbolic quantifier elimination. We extend some recent symbolic approaches for SAT solving to symbolic Q...

A First Step Towards a Unified Proof Checker for QBF

Compared to SAT, there is no simple concept of what a solution to a QBF problem is. Furthermore, as the series of QBF evaluations shows, the QBF solvers that are available often disagree. Thus, proof generation for QBF seems to be even more important than for SAT. In this paper we propose a new uniform proof format, which captures refutations and witnesses for a variety of QBF solvers, and is b...
